Hello everyone….Welcome to another discussion of wisdom hall. Where today’s topic will be on patience.

We’ve all heard the saying that patience is a virtue. Well I’d like to discuss the essence of this word called patience. In researching the definition of the word “patience” I found the meaning to be one of:

     • Having the capacity for calmly enduring difficult situations
     • or the ability to wait calmly for something to happen without complaining or giving up

In these challenging moments of today, patience continues to be tested. While the stock market continues to be in turmoil, home values are being decimated, companies are downsizing and/or closing their doors, and families are being forced to leave their homes, there is one resource that continues to multiply in its enthusiasm. It is the inspiring future and hope of our future leaders.

While patience is often demanded rather than requested, we as leaders are challenged with understanding when patience brings opportunity, rather than frustration.

I learned many years ago that patience has the power to both change and affect your life and the lives of others. I’ve met several people in my life that were so anxious to achieve success that they sacrificed their morals. They were more concerned with the glamor and financial gain of success than the negative effect that their fast earning success would have on the lives of others. They made decisions to earn money and fame at the expense in livelihood of many people. Though they knew the cost of their actions, they ignored its destruction. As a result, the lives of many people were destroyed. The actions not only destroyed the lives of those immediately involved, but the generations that followed them. Sometimes the cost of impatience is unlimited. So be careful in the decisions of what actions you take in your life. Your decisions are often not limited to affecting your life only.

But if you take the time to consider the options and benefits of the rewards relating patience, I am sure that you will find that in most situations, being patient will not disappoint you.

We should always remember that when impatience becomes the standard of any situation, the opportunity of anyone being in agreement becomes minimal.

As a leader it is important to maximize even your most challenging efforts. But in the act of demonstrating patience we should not forget that there will be times of difficulty. Leaders should never fool themselves into believing that patience is only considered a virtue when it is easy to execute. It remains a virtue even in its time of difficulty.

Leonardo da Vinci, one of the greatest paint artists that have ever lived was once quoted as saying, "Patience serves as a protection against wrongs as clothes do against cold. For if you put on more clothes, as the cold increases it will have no power to hurt you. So in like manner you must grow in patience when you meet with great wrongs, and they will be powerless to vex your mind."

His profound statement sets the stage for achieving success through the perseverance of patience. In the power of patience you will find an increasing opportunity of growth. In this growth you will often find the guidance needed to achieve those goals that are most important to you in your life.

Though it may sometimes feel as though you are alone in your demonstration of patience, always remember that you are not. Look to your closes friends or those that aspire to bring goodness into your life, because they will be your greatest cheerleaders in the arena of patience….
